This Qigong form is a set of seven movements designed to affect the whole body. It works on two levels: firstly the physical Choreography massages the soft tissues of the body and, at the deeper levels, the tendons and ligaments. This allows the body to release tensions and 'open up', increasing circulation of blood and sinovial fluid through the joints; Secondly, connection of the hands to your Qi energy throughout the movements emphasises and encourages the correct flow of Qi through the Acupuncture Meridians. This emphasised flow will either wear down or release blockages in the Meridians.
This is an ideal form for beginners, as it highlights the mind-body coordination, begins to gently open up the body and some effect is still gained even if the moves are not practiced precisely. It is also exceptional at targeting particular areas of the body and is therefore useful in combating illness and diseases, as well as improving recovery times from injury.

Opening the Energy Gates begins to blur the bounderies between Qigong and the deeper Nei Gung practices. More meditative in its practice, this form focuses upon the body's optimum alignment structure and connectivity, correct breathing techniques, releasing tension and energy meridian blockages, exercising the internal dynamics of the body and begins to open the spine directly.
This is an excellent foundation for anyone looking to develop their physical prowess both for fun and professionally, and a welcome platform from which to explore meditation or approach everyday life with increased awareness and mental clarity.

The Grandfather of the Internal Arts, Ba Gua Zhang is one of the most comprehensive Arts. Originally a meditative practice, it is the physical embodiment of the Eight Primal Energies of the Ba Gua Trigrams (literally meaning 8 Changes Trigrams), which are combined to create the 64 Hexagrams of the Taoist I Ching divination system.
As such Ba Gua is a highly technical Art, which has great respect throughout the world of Internal and External Arts.
The practice Ba Gua focuses upon walking a circle using the 'Mud Walking'. Holding various arm postures whilst walking, helps to open the body and develop your energy flow throughout. Changes in direction through Palm Changes, increases the opening and lengthening in the body whilst removing inertia from the both the body and the mind.
As these practices deepen, Qi development and sensitivity will increase, internal physiology will strengthen and mental awareness will expand, allowing progression into the Ba Gua meditative practices. |
